She Sees the World in Sepia

elaina reflection

I asked my daughter one day while she was playing guitar, to try her hand at writing some lyrics.  The following is a piece of poetry that flowed out of her.  She was only 19 when she wrote this, yet there is the essence of an old soul…..I am adding a selfie she took one day in inclement weather as it fits the prose.  She is a creator in all mediums:

COLLECT MY THOUGHTS, COLLECT MY SIN

PACK MY BAGS, FIND MY WAY AGAIN

TURNED MY WRIST TO FIND THE TIME

ANY EXCUSE TO HOLD THE LINE

SHE SEE’S THE WORLD IN SEPIA,

SETS FIRE TO THE HILLS

AS THE SUN THAT FOLDS DOWN EASY NOW

LIKE HONEY ON THE WINDOW SILL

ROOTS OF CHANGE GROW STEADY NOW,

LIKE THE INK UPON HER BACK

LOVED THEM, LOST THEM, LOVED AGAIN

SHOWS SIGNS OF HEART ATTACK

BREATHE ME IN LIKE OXYGEN,

EXHALE MY TATTERED SOUL

KEEP ME AT THIS DISTANCE

ITS BETTER FOR US BOTH

SHED MY LAYERS, SHED MY FEARS,

WALK THOSE OLD TRAIN TRACKS

MAYBE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS,

IT’S COURAGE THAT I LACKED
